Making your own wood chews

I always have to laugh at myself for spending $50 or more to have wood chews mailed to me.  However, a good, healthy wood chew is nothing to laugh at.  If you have chinchillas, degus, parrots, rabbits, or other pets with growing teeth or beaks, it's a necessity.  And the product that is available at the chain petstores is just not up to par.

The Chome

One of the very first woodworking things I made from scratch was something I call the chome.  This stands for chinnie-home.  I was frustrated that my chinchillas spent most of their time on the shelves up high but their sleeping houses that I had purchased at the pet store had no way to attach to the upper part of the cage.

Before I bought my tools, I made up something for them by just drilling holes in a woodland getaway and hanging it upside down.

This week's project -- 3 layer cage liners

Among all my other duties and activities, I volunteered to make some kennel liners for a friend last year.  She really liked them so I offered to make them for anyone else on my Chins N Friends forum.  This has blossomed into an almost full time job for the last 3 weeks. 

I love doing it but don't really have the time to continue advertising on a regular basis.  I will, however, make liners for a friend any time.  I use 2 layers of fleece with a terry cloth middle.  I have made a few for myse...
